| One Wish
I wish for wings because I miss them so much.
I wish to fly, fast and straight.
Forever will I return, even from afar,
There are people waiting for me
and I know who they are.
One holds golden dust if ours are live and well
We remember others with lonely stories of hell
“Where is mummy?” they ask,
but no one ever told them why she ‘fell’.
In times like today
We act to protect our own
Keeping a warm welcome open
for those without a home.
Fighting parents carry the battle abroad
Far away from the sofa, gone – of their own accord
Building countries so the future can once again
be filled with Life after Death
So a child can play with their father,
So a child can feel the love from Mum,
So other people can have what we have
For a long, long time to come.
I give thanks for my family of four.
When life plummets they reach down and we build once more.
I give thanks for my family, every night, without a sound
I am so dam happy to be heading homeward bound.
No aggressor will prevail
No quarrel will last.
Mother, I am your daughter
Father, I am your son.
For the family and for every man,
For such a long, long time to come.
